Editor’s Letter: July

As I write this from my desk, with all windows thrown open and 2 battery-operated fans by my side, I think it’s safe to say that Summer is certainly here. We’ve been blessed with great weather, and although I’m not a huge fan of a heatwave, it’s always so great to see the county come alive - the scent of barbecue in the air, the laughter of children on the park, the jingle of the ice cream van. Hedgerows are humming with bees, and village greens prepare for fêtes, cricket matches and picnics with strawberries aplenty.

There are lots of great things happening in Derbyshire this month, and we’re sharing our favourites on our What’s On page, as well as our Instagram. Do come along and give us a follow, we’re growing our audience rather nicely and love being tagged in your photos too!

Both Rachel and I had a working lunch at Chatsworth Farm Shop a couple of weeks ago, which was rather delightful. I opted for a savoury cream tea: cheese scone, cream cheese and caramelised onion jam: a delicious combination. We also took a trip to the charming Castleton, which - although the weather wasn’t on our side that day - looked as beautiful as ever.

We’re particularly enjoying the lighter evenings: and in the recent heatwave weather, it feels like the perfect opportunity to take a cup of tea out to the garden when the air is cooler, sit a little longer, and watch the sun slip behind the hills.

Wishing you a wonderful July filled with sunlit moments and an abundance of strawberries and cream!

Warmest wishes,
Olivia
