Editor’s Letter: September

We can hardly believe it’s September already. The beginning of the ‘ber months. After a long, hot summer, September eases us into a quiet hibernation. Gentle light and early morning mists, hedgerows littered with berries and leaves slowly turning - this month is summer’s exhale.

It’s the perfect time to make those small rituals as we go steadily into a new season. Take joy in pulling your walking boots on, filling your basket with the last of the season’s fruit, and watch the evenings draw in a little sooner each day. Notice the change - not with urgency, but for a slow appreciation of Derbyshire’s changing landscape. Light the candles. Romanticise a warm, spiced beverage, and savour the beauty of this gentle turning point in the year.
